Dan Johnson

Dan Johnson has more than twenty one years experience in health care that includes both clinical experience, insurance, health care policy analysis, and medical management. Mr. Johnson's responsibilities with MAG Mutual include administration of Corporate Integrity Agreements between health care providers and the U.S. Government; physician representation against overpayments and, with attorney guidance, against fraud and abuse allegations; and Compliance Risk Assessments and development of Compliance Plans for physicians and other health care providers. Mr. Johnson also manages the MAG Mutual Insurance Legal Defense Fund for physicians involved in Medicare/Medicaid Overpayment audits.

His previous employment was with the American Academy of Family Physicians where he was Manager for Reimbursement Issues and he served as Assistant Staff Executive on the Academy's Commission on Health Care Services. He was also a contributing editor to the AAFP's publication, Family Practice Management. His Academy tenure was spent advising family physician members on coding, billing and reimbursement concerns; dispute resolution; and health care policy analysis.

He previously served as a Medicare Fraud and Abuse Investigator for Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Kansas City.

He also served as faculty to the Kansas City Metropolitan Community Colleges where he instructed students in the area of Practice Management. Mr. Johnson also spent eight years as a Certified Surgical Technologist at several mid-western hospitals where he assisted surgeons and/or participated on the surgical team for a variety of surgical procedures.

Mr. Johnson earned a Bachelors of Science in Allied Health from the University of Kansas and has attained Certified Procedural Coder and Certified Professional Coder - Hospital designations.

His role with MAG Mutual keeps him heavily involved in advising physicians and their staff on reimbursement issues, fee schedule analysis, Medicare audit defense, and regulatory compliance. He also performs medical practice evaluations, general practice management, and assists with Managed Care contract negotiations.
